Scope of services:

Health & Safety Services was the environmental consultant for all environmental and safety issues during the Navy contract which involved the scrapping of retired Navy ships from the James River in Norfolk, Virginia and Philadelphia Navy Yard.

Services provided by Health & Safety Services included a thorough inspection of the entire ship for Asbestos Containing Materials, identification and classification of hazardous materials, site safety design for environmental related activities, and quantification of all material identified in the ship.

Once all hazardous materials and asbestos was identified and quantified, Health & Safety Services was responsible for remediation design, quality assurance during abatement activities and compliance with OSHA, USEPA and City of Philadelphia asbestos control regulations.

The abatements and hazardous removal activities on all ships were completed on time and under budget.
